OTTAWA –A 25-year-old Rantoul man was killed Monday morning when his pickup collided with an SUV on K-68 two miles east of Ottawa. William Scott Hankins, Rantoul, was killed in the fiery wreck, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Damon Stroud, 21, Lawrence, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer east on K-68 when he drifted across the center-line and into the west-bound lane, the highway patrol said. Hankins was driving west and tried to avoid Stroud’s SUV by going into the east-bound lane. Stroud suddenly turned back into the east-bound lane, hitting Hankins’ truck head on, the highway patrol said. Stroud was injured and was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital.
