IOLA — Two people were injured, including an Iola police officer, Sunday morning during the theft of the officer’s vehicle. Police officer Steven Womack, 59, had stopped Tanner Beauvais, 23, Jenks, Oklah., on Mississippi Road about three miles south of Iola, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Beauvais tried to drive off in Womack’s 2013 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle, the highway patrol said. Womack grabbed the vehicle but was dragged along the road before losing his grip and skidded. Beauvais drove about a half-mile before going off the road and hitting a tree, the highway patrol said. They were both taken to Allen County Hospital in Iola.
