OTTAWA — Ottawa firefighters stopped an out-of-control fire from spreading to a manufacturing building at 931 N. Bennett late Thursday morning. Employees were burning wood from pallets in a burn barrel next to the building when it spread to the exterior wall of the building, assistant fire chief Shawn Dillon said. An employee was using a garden hose to fight the fire when firefighters arrived, he said. They quickly put out the fire. The ambulance crew checked the employee but he wasn’t taken to the hospital. The company was informed that they didn’t have a burn permit, he said. The damage was estimated at about $3,500.
