OTTAWA — Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-14th. This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out.” Families need to pre-plan so everyone will snap into action and escape as quickly as possible in a fire, said Capt. Dennis Nowatzke, Ottawa Fire Department. In most home fires, people have as little as two minutes to escape, he said. Escape planning is critical to ensure everyone in the house knows how to use their time wisely, he said.
