OTTAWA — With the construction of the new career tech building at Ottawa High School winding up, USD 290 has been working with Neosho County Community College to bring some new tech programs to Ottawa. A welding program should move into the new building for next year, said Supt. Jeanne Stroh. Presently, five Ottawa students have been going to Garnett every day for welding classes, missing a couple of hours of class because of the trip, and the new program will be a benefit to them, she said. The district and the college are also working on bringing additional programs within the next two or three years, including a building trades program, which has been frequently requested, she said. It’s also possible that a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning program could be created at the center, she said.
