KANSAS CITY — A 24-year-old Raytown, Mo., man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Paola man last week in Blue Springs, Mo. John Jeffries has been charged in Jackson County, Mo., District Court with shooting Clinton Peckman as he sat in his work van outside the Bethlehem Café in Blue Springs. Peckman was on his way to an apartment complex where he was working. Police told Kansas City news media that after the shooting, Jeffries unsuccessfully tried to carjack a vehicle from a couple. He fired a shot during a struggle for the car and damaged it when he backed it into curb. He abandoned the car and fled on foot but was later captured.
