LENEXA – Franklin County Commissioner Randall Renoud’s routine shopping trip to a Costco store in Lenexa turned into a nightmare Sunday morning. Customers and store staff fled the store when a man entered the store and started waving a gun and yelling. An off-duty police officer shot and killed the man. Renoud said he was at the bakery in the back of the store when people started running by. “People were running …,” Renoud said. “They were yelling ‘You’ve got to get out of the building; you’ve got to get out of the building.” Renoud held doors open as people fled outside. Not aware of the man with the gun, nor seeing or hearing anything, Renoud said he and a couple employees moved through the store when they saw the man about 40 yards away. Then they heard gunshots. “That’s when I thought I should leave.”
