OTTAWA — Cases of the flu are starting to pick up in Kansas, and it’s just a matter of time before more cases are seen in the Franklin County area. Many people are putting off getting a flu shot but Franklin County Health Department director Midge Ransom said now’s the time. “I know it’s been on the news a lot that the vaccine isn’t as effective as we’d like it to be,” Ransom said. “But remember, the vaccine helps prevents disease.” This year’s flu shots would be most effect if the strain is the same as last year, “which we think it is,” she said. It’s very important for those 65 and older and very young children to get the shot, because they are most vulnerable, she said.
