OTTAWA- Downtown businesses have received a letter from the city outlining the installation of new water mains on both sides of Main street in downtown Ottawa from the river bridge to 5th street. The letter indicates the contractor will start at the bridge on the east side, working to 5th. The will then move across the street and work back north toward the river bridge.
The process will create water outages for each business from one to several hours, but they will work to minimize the time a business is without water. Once complete, replacing the service lines to each building will begin.
Two public meetings will be held to discuss concerns people may have with the project. They will be the evening of July 11th from 6 to 8 and the morning of July 13th from 8-10.
The city is replacing the lines due to many breaks in the 33 year old lines downtown. The project is set to begin July 16th and be complete in five to six months.
