GARNETT- A Garnett woman has won the Jersey Cattle Association’s Master Breeder award. Christy Ratliff says it was unbelievable when she got the phone call saying she had won. she is only the second Kansan and the fourth woman to win the award since it was established in 1944.
Ratliff has been showing and breeding high quality cattle for many years, including owning and breeding the only three time national champion cow in the history of the Jersey breed.
Along with their dairy herd, Kristie and her husband Ron, also run an extensive beef cattle breeding program and keep around 100 beef cows as donor recipients. As owners of the Anderson County Sales Company in Garnett, they have a built in outlet for their farm to provide high end cattle sales, with a production sale every year or two.
Ratliff says it is important to her to sell cattle worth owning, milking and showing, as she will not accept anything less than the best in her business.
