OTTAWA- An Ottawa man was arrested following a chase that ended in Douglas County near Lawrence. The pursuit began yesterday morning about 10 when a deputy attempted to pull over a truck that had passed two cars in a no passing zone, nearly causing an accident.
Lieutenant Brian Ferguson of the Franklin County Sheriff’s office says the man was pulling a trailer that had been stolen from C-O-F in Ottawa.
The driver led officers onto gravel roads and into Douglas County and then pulled into a private drive, drove through some bushes, into a ditch and then into a field. At that point the trailer came off the truck.
The chase ended when a Douglas County deputy used his car to immobilize the pickup in a ditch at east 1000 and north 1156 roads, just east of Clinton lake.
Ferguson says the 36-year-old man was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported and the man’s name was not released.
