OTTAWA — Franklin County rural firefighters have had to deal with at least seven out-of-control grass fires in the last four days and even the Ottawa Fire Department has had to deal with a couple of open burns. It’s the time for burning grass but Franklin County fire marshal Alan Radcliffe said you should be careful that you don’t burn everything else. The county has a system of annual burn permits and rural residents expecting to do burns are required to get the $1 permits, he said. Then whenever they want to burn, they call the Franklin County 911 dispatch to notify them of the burn and then they’ll be told to proceed, he said.
