If you can’t speak English and have an emergency, then your troubles are made even more severe. At the First Friday Forum, Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards noted that a growing number of migrant families in the area poses a challenge for first responders.
Richards says Ottawa schools teaching students English as a second language should help relieve the problem of non-English speakers trying to tell 9-1-1 what their emergency is.
