Ottawa, like many other communities, has many needs in the city as well as the schools.   Many children need resources and services that the school could not provide in the past.  All that has changed as the school district has hired two social workers to work with the kids and their families in the schools.  One of the areas of concern is homelessness.  Assistant Superintendent Josh Robinson says the district is trying to work on the problem.

The two social workers are familiar faces in Ottawa.  Darnell Johnson will be working at Lincoln and in the alternative schools, and Salley Crawford-Fowler will be working in Sunflower and Garfield School.  The district received a 15 thousand dollar grant to help pay for the positions.
