An officer with the Ottawa Police Department has been arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation after an incident was reported to the Ottawa Police Department involving the officer.  Ottawa Police requested the KBI’s assistance in the investigation of the allegation, which reportedly occurred at the officer’s home on Monday. 38-year-old Steven Burkhart was arrested at his home late yesterday afternoon in the 800 block of Ash.  He was booked into the Franklin County Jail for battery and criminal threat.  The investigation is ongoing and the KBI says no further information will be released at this time.

Ottawa Assistant Police Cheif Adam Weingartner says as a matter of department policy, Burkhart was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and the Ottawa Police will not be involved in the investigation as they have handed the case over to the KBI.
