Franklin County has too many inmates to fit into the local jail and occasionally for a variety of reasons, some are “farmed” out to other county jails. Some of the counties that house local inmates include Miami, Cherokee, and Wilson Counties. Likewise, Johnson County charge up to $85 a day. Franklin County uses jails that charge $45 a day. In response to a question by commissioners about future expansion at the Franklin County jail, sheriff Jeff Richards responded by saying, “There are ways to expand without having to add staff.”
The commission approved a contract with the Miami County jail to house a specific inmate needing specific care.
