The Wellsville Police Department received a nice gift from Triple-A Kansas. They presented Chief Blair with a state of the art, vehicle-mounted speed radar unit. The equipment donation was made possible by a grant from the Triple-A Kansas Traffic Safety Fund. Public Affairs Manager for Triple-A Kansas Jennifer Haw says that excessive speed is a factor in a tremendous number of traffic crashes. She urged motorists to obey the speed laws, use seatbelts on every trip, and eliminate distractions. According to the latest statistics in Kansas, there are nearly 4,500 speed-related crashes annually, or one crash every two hours caused by speeding. These crashes led to nearly 2,000 injuries and 71 fatalities. She added that Triple-A wants Wellsville and Franklin County roads to be safer for all motorists.
