SANTIAGO, Chile — A former Osawatomie resident who is a lecturer at the University of Chile in Santiago, experienced the powerful earthquake that hit the South American country Feb. 27. Since then, Peter Murphy Lewis has helped U.S. news reporters move about Chile and has served as interpreter in the aftermath of the quake. His father, Osawatomie banker Gregg Lewis told the Osawatomie Journal that he had few worries for his son’s safety because Chile has some of the toughest building codes in the world because of the number of quakes that have occurred in the country.
