In Miami County, Louisburg voters approved an infrastructure improvement sales tax increase, with 60 percent (997 votes) in favor of the measure and 40 percent (661 votes) against it. This will help pay for improvements to a one mile stretch of South Metcalf Road in Louisburg. The city received a federal grant putting major importance on the issue. County and Louisburg officials have said money generated from the sales tax would be instrumental in funding their portions of the $4 million project. Louisburg’s total sales tax in the city does to 9.5 percent. The increase will go into effect July 1, 2019. The Metcalf Project is slated to begin in 2022. Sandy Harris will be the next Ward 3 Member of the Louisburg City Council, receiving 279 votes to Clint Ernst’s 177 votes, it was the only contested council race in Maimi County.
Voter turnout throughout Miami County exceeded 55 percent, with 12,888 of 23,274 registered voters casting ballots. The election results are unofficial until November 15th, when the County Canvas will take place.
