The deer season is upon us and the deer are on the move. With this comes the annual rush of deer-vehicle accidents. Franklin County has seen over 60 such accidents in the past 6 weeks and the state of Kansas has done over 10 thousand vehicle accidents last year resulting in over 600 injuries and 7 deaths.
The Kansas Highway Patrol encourages drivers not to swerve to avoid a collision as swerving can lead to overcorrecting and causing a worse accident. Also, if you do hit a deer and are uninjured, move your car from the roadway and don’t worry about the animal. Let law enforcement officers move it. Realize that deer are on the move most from dusk to dawn.
