Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler has announced he has accepted the position of Director of the Riley County Police Department and leaving Ottawa. Chief Butler says he really wasn’t looking for new employment.
He adds that one reason the Riley County position caught his eye is that Riley County Police Department is the only county police department in the state of Kansas. There is no sheriff’s department, it operates the correctional facility, and it is an accredited department just like Ottawa.
