The annual Martin Luther King commemoration was held yesterday Sunday January 20th at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium. The winners of each grade in the essay contest got to read their essays on stage. Fourth grade winner Italian Florentin had a personal message. Her sister is a special needs student and what matters most to Italia is desegregation and discrimination of special needs kids in the community. She just wants her sister to grow up like everyone else…

The theme of the contest this year was, our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter, and the question was, “What matter most to you that is going on in our country today in keeping with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s teaching? How would you address it?”
