This week is severe weather awareness week in Kansas. The state wide tornado drill was this morning, Tuesday March 5th and now is the time to start thinking about where you will go if a tornado warning is issued for the area. It’s pretty common knowledge that if you don’t have a basement, you need to go there. But… What if you don’t have a basement, or you are in a car? National Weather Service Meteorologist John Woynick can help.
He says you need to try and find the lowest possible place if you are caught out in the open. The state saw 45 tornadoes last year, but not one death was attributed to the storms. Credit for these achievements can be credited in some measure to early warnings, storm spotters and public preparedness.
