KANSAS CITY — Today is Census Day. If you haven’t mailed back your Census form back yet, be reminded. The Census Bureau says more half the country has already mailed its forms back. But the form asks how many people were living in your home on April 1. Today is what the Census Bureau calls the “point-in-time benchmark.” It’s the data from this date that, years from now, demographers and historians will use, when they refer back to the U.S. population of our current era. ABC reports that 10 years ago, 72 percent of Americans mailed their forms back. The bureau’s hoping we’ll meet — if not exceed — that rate this time, to reduce the cost of a door-to-door headcount. Also today, the the 2010 Census ‘Portrait of America’ Road Tour will be in Kansas City. You can learn about the Census and its history, record your story on a Portrait of America kiosk and get some 2010 Census giveaways. The Census Road Tour will be 11 to 2 today at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center, 3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City.
Thursday, April 1, 7:30 a.m.
