The state emergency operations center in Topeka remains activated to monitor weather conditions across the state and respond to requests for assistance due to widespread severe storms and flooding.
Evacuations began at Melvern Lake and Turtle Creek reservoirs as a safety measure due to the potential for releases from both reservoirs. The outlet park at Melvern releases from both reservoirs. The outlet at Melvern lake was evacuated and closed Saturday evening; the river pond park and rocky ford areas of Turtle Creek State Park were evacuated at 8 that evening. There are red cross shelters on standby in multiple areas in the state to receive people that may be displaced by flooding.
And further south, the city of Coffeyville has called a mandatory evacuation for flood-prone areas as of this morning. City officials say, “This applies to those in flood areas and first responders are notifying residents and businesses in those areas.
