The National Weather Service has rated Tuesday’s tornado that caused extensive damage across the area as an EF-4. Tuesday’s twister had peak winds of 170 mph. The tornado caused 18 injuries, including an Ottawa man who was caught in the storm on K-10 east of Lawrence and damaged homes, trees and power lines in Douglas, Leavenworth and Wyandotte Counties. The weather service says, “The tornado developed southwest of Lawrence as an EF-4 strength at Linwood. The tornado was on the ground for almost 32 miles and was 1 mile wide at its largest.
