The proposed renovation of a building at 4th and Main in downtown Ottawa has hit a bit of a snag. The state historic preservation office or “shipo” has denied Josh Walker’s request for renovation. He has requested the city of Ottawa override their decision. Community development director Wendy Lee says, “City staff would like to have the entire building in the downtown area.”

Walker wants to renovate the building back to the way it was decades ago and include a restaurant, retail space, office space and offer some type of housing on the upper floor. The commission placed a public hearing on the matter on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting.
