A former Ottawa police officer charged with battery and a criminal threat was in court yesterday morning. His attorney told the court that Steven Burkhart would like to waive his rights to a preliminary hearing and proceed with an arraignment. The prosecuting attorney, Miami County attorney, Elizabeth Sweeny Reeder says, “The prosecution had no issue and the judge granted the request.” Judge Shannon Rush scheduled the arraignment hearing for July 22nd at 1:30 in the afternoon.
