The Ottawa City Commission voted this morning to override the state historic preservation office or S.H.I.P.O’s recommendation that the building at 401 Main Street left vacant until the complete renovation of the building can be done. City officials were in unanimous disagreement to that opinion stating that the building had gone through many renovations in its history and change to the need of Ottawa. Josh Walker, who plans to renovate the building says, “Hopes this can draw additional interest in other projects in the downtown area.”
Walker wants to renovate to include a restaurant, retail space, office space and offer some type of housing on the upper floor. The commission voted unanimously to override the S.H.I.P.O decision.
