Yesterday, members of the Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit and members of the regional task force conducted an operation designed to disrupt a drug distribution network operating in Franklin County. After a lengthy investigation where detectives conducted searches and served arrest warrants, they seized illegal narcotics. During the operation, a suspect barricaded himself in the residence in the lane. With the help of the special tactics team, Kansas Highway Patrol, an armored vehicle from the Lawrence Police Department, along with a robot and K-9 Unit, the suspect was taken into custody and the situation was resolved peacefully. Franklin County Sheriff Jef Richards says, “Names cannot be released due to the ongoing investigation.” KOFO will provide more details as they become available.
