Ottawa has seen an uptick of car burglaries and property theft in recent weeks. The Ottawa Police Department attributes the increase in these types of crime to the warm weather and school being out, which puts more people on the streets and out at later hours. Lieutenant Doug Waterman with the Ottawa Police Department says, “Thieves are creatures of opportunity.”
He adds, “To keep your porch light on, park in well-lit areas, if possible and, again, emphasizes, LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS!!!”
