Kansas State Treasurer Jake Laturner set a new Kansas record for the amount of money returned to taxpayers from the unclaimed property division of the state treasury. At the close business June 30th, the end of the fiscal year 2019, the state treasurer’s office returned over $27 million dollars in unclaimed property to Kansans, over half a million more than last year. He has made it a priority since taking office to help Kansas recover unclaimed property and has focused on new technology and even live television events to do so. Laturner says, “Giving back unclaimed cash to Kansas is a very rewarding part of what they do at the treasures office.” He encourages Kansans to check back on a regular basis for themselves, family members and friend because they still have over $300 million more waiting to be claimed.
