Significant weather rolled through the area last night. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southern Franklin and Anderson County. There were reports of quarter size hail southwest of Harris and 60 mph winds southwest of Garnett. Did it catch you by surprise?

With all the severe weather and tornados that went through the area earlier in the summer and the heavy rains and flooding that accompanied it, it is important for people to have different ways to get warned about the weather. Relying on one way can often lead to, actually, being uninformed. Franklin County emergency management coordinator Thomas Winter says, “Everyone should be ready to take action.”

He adds that sirens won’t help in alerting you to some weather warnings, such as flash flood warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings. You can stay tuned to KOFO for all the latest up to the minute coverage of severe weather in our area.
