False alarms are a big problem for first responders and it’s really a big problem for the Franklin County Emergency Medical Services. Director Nick Robbins says, “It’s usually caused by an emergency pendant worn on the wrist or around the neck.”
Robbins says, “His department plans to apply for accreditation with the emergency medical dispatching.” He says, “Doing this would enable him to set up a system where calls can be given priority.” For example, if someone has fallen, they will be tended to, but if a heart attack call comes in at the same time, ambulance crews will obviously head to the heart attack patient first, and then get to the less serious medical calls as soon as they can.
