Already this year in the U.S. thirty-two children has died from heatstroke inside vehicles. The statistic hit close to home this past weekend as a two-year-old child was found dead inside a hot car in Lawrence late yesterday afternoon. Police responded to the 33 hundred block of Iowa Street and upon arriving determined that the child had passed away.

Amber Rollins from kidsandcars.org says, “A rear-facing car seat looks the same to the driver whether a baby is in it or not and we need a reminder.”

She adds the inside of a vehicle heats up very quickly. Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside can reach 125 degrees in just a few minutes. Be mindful of the heat advisory is in place today, please don’t be in a rush, take the time to look before you lock and prevent a tragedy.
