The results of the Garnett election concerning the expansion of the City Commission from three members to 5 reversed the results of the advisory election last November. The voter turnout in the first election was a concern of one of the commissioners, Jody Cole called for a special election to let the people so a greater number of people could be reached and voice their opinion on the subject. Interestingly, about 3000 fewer people cast their vote this time than in November. That fact is frustrating for commissioner Bridgette Brechheisen Huss. She says, “Voter apathy played a big part in the mail ballot and she thought a broader demographic was reached last November.”

She adds that she will express her opinion at the next Commission meeting and then expect the council to go on, with no strife between them. She also adds that she does not expect the issue to resurface any time too soon.
