In an effort to rid neighborhood blight, the city of Osawatomie has recently had five dilapidated structures demolished after they were officially condemned by the city council. Vacant structures at 1134 Third Street, 337 Walnut Street, 500 Chestnut Avenue, 736 Parker Avenue and 417 Ninth Street have been razed. An old water well was discovered at the Third Street location. It was filled in by city employees and smoothed over by the contractor on the project. G&G Dozer of Caney, Kansas, did the demolition work after being named the successful bidder. The new vacant lots will be seeded within the next few weeks.
