OTTAWA — The Ottawa school board did little work on its budget at Monday night’s meeting. Assistant superintendent Brian Kraus says there’s little that the board can do until after Thursday, when the state’s revenue estimating board meets to make estimates about the state’s revenues. Legislators adjourned from their first session without a proposed budget and school districts won’t know the final budget until legislators act. Ottawa officials based their budget projections for next year on the idea that there will be no further state funding cuts for next year, Kraus said. The board made budget and staffing decisions based on that supposition, he said. Unless the legislature makes more funding cuts, Kraus said he’s not expecting the board to have to make more cutbacks for now.
