GARNETT — Farmers are continuing to struggle with health insurance coverage. Westphalia farmer Keith Hirt worries that his health insurance premiums might go up as insurance companies and physicians adapt to the recent health care reform law. He will soon go on Medicare, but he told the Anderson County Review he needs to maintain his wife’s health insurance coverage and he worries that her premiums will skyrocket. Anderson County Farm Bureau’s Aaron Lizer said it’s too early to know exactly how the new health care reform will affect people in Anderson County, but he said it could create an extra burden for farmers. Many farmers can’t afford high cost premiums and go without, he said. However, Lizer said he’s glad to see some of the changes, such as allowing children to stay on parents’ policies to age 26.
