A Garnett man accused in the shooting of one of his neighbours and an ensuing standoff with law officers on September 22nd will appear in court Tuesday on charges of attempted murder among others. 56-year-old David Osler of Garnett, was charged last week during his first appearance in Anderson County district court with first degree murder, aggravated residential burglary, and criminal threat. The charges are in connection to an incident late in the afternoon of Sunday, September 22nd, when Osler allegedly entered the home of his neighbor, 67-year-old Robin Durand, and shot him over a dispute.
Durand suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Kansas City area hospital, and Osler barricaded himself in his home in the 100 block of 13th Avenue and refused to come out. Police, sheriff’s officers, highway patrolmen and a special tactics team from Coffey County were held at bay for some three hours before Osler was talked into leaving the residence and giving up his weapon, where he was taken into custody without incident. Osler is being held in the Anderson County Jail on a $10 million bond.
