OTTAWA — The Franklin County Republican Central Committee will have a special meeting next Monday night to pick a new sheriff. Sheriff Craig Davis said Friday he is resigning July 1. Because Davis a Republican, the new sheriff will be picked by county Republican precinct committee members. Although the public can’t vote, they’re welcome to attend the meeting. Franklin County GOP Chairman Jim Robinson said candidates for sheriff will speak at the meeting, which will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Nazarene Church, 700 S. Elm.
