The maintenance was supposed to be very routine and only take a couple hours on the Spring Valley Road water tower. It didn’t quite turn out that way for Louisburg Public Works director Craig Hufferd. Though the tower was only supposed to be down a couple hours at most, a couple broken parts led to a two-week repair. Because of this the Louisburg water appeared to be cloudy, due to higher pressure coming from the Marais des Cygnes Public Utility Authority Water Treatment Plant.
In a statement yesterday, city officials said the water supply is safe to drink and meets state standards as verified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Despite some rumors, the KDHE did not issue a boil order and according to the Miami County Republic, Hufferd says the water has been safe from the beginning, as chlorine levels have been slightly elevated and lines flushed.
