MANHATTAN — Now that we’re in the middle of the severe weather season, state climatologist Mary Knapp, Kansas State University, said you should develop a safety plan for severe weather. Mobile homes, even when they’re tied down, aren’t designed to stand up to tornadoes or even severe thunderstorms, she said. Even if you don’t live in a mobile home, you must make plans for your own particular situation, she said. And although you hear a warning you must be prepared to act on that warning, Knapp said.
Tuesday is the third anniversary of a deadly EF-5 tornado packing winds of 205 miles per hour destroyed Greensburg. Knapp said Greensburg residents had about a 30-minute warning before the tornado struck.
