Nothing will really change in how the Ottawa Police Department operates, but the accreditation organization that accredits law enforcement agencies is requiring some paperwork. Police Chief Adam Weingartner told the city commission the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, also known as CALEA, has some new requirements.
The city manager still has ultimate authority over the police chief. The city commission has until next June to issue the statement but is expected to issue it long before that time. Ottawa is one of nine accredited agencies in the state.
