Many people may know that the Ottawa Police Department participated in no shave November to raise money to adopt a family for Christmas through ECKAN. The department raised $600 and used the money to purchase gifts at Ottawa businesses for an Ottawa family. In addition, the Ottawa Municipal Court staff donated $500 and adopted a family through ECKAN and an undisclosed cash donation was made to the family by the Ottawa Police Department volunteers in police services.
Police Chief Adam Weingartner says, he is proud of the staff and it is great to be able to give back to the community after receiving so much support. He adds that it is a great reminder of why they serve.
According to Officer Nick Goodwin, who coordinated the fundraiser, they are already planning to do the same thing next year and hope to make it an annual tradition of paying it forward to the community.
The department provided a police escort to deliver the gifts to ECKAN yesterday morning.
