GARNETT — An energy study has recommended ways to cut high utility costs at the Anderson County Law Enforcement Center. Utility bills have ranged from $6,800 to $13,000 a month or double to triple the original energy-use estimate. The study by Design Mechanical says energy use at the facility is above the national average for similar facilities. The Anderson County Review reports to cut energy costs, the study suggests heating water with natural gas instead of electricity, adjusting the heating and cooling system, cutting the amount of time allowed for inmates to shower and reprogramming the thermostats to shut down areas of the facility that are not in use. Once the changes are made, Design Mechanical will check to see if the energy bills are lower.
