TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Transportation has signed a deal with the Colorado Department of Transportation and Prestige Bus Charters of Wichita to provide intercity bus service between Wichita and Pueblo, Colo. KDOT said it will also sign a contract with Prestige to provide intercity bus service between Salina and Wichita.
KDOT’s Lisa Koch said service on both routes is expected to begin by late summer. There will be one daily round trip between Wichita and Pueblo and two daily round trips between Salina and Wichita, she said. Federal money will be used to buy two new buses for each route and to help with the operating expenses of the service, she said. Some of the money will come from federal economic stimulus money. Federal rural transportation aid requires kansas to use $2 million intercity transit. That figure for Kansas is about $2 million.
