HILLSDALE LAKE — Hillsdale Lake and its staff is preparing for the biggest weekend for the Memorial Day holiday, which is traditionally the kickoff for the summer season. Hillsdale State Park’s Anne Thurow said there will be lots of people showing up. The park has most of the camping spots at the lake and nearly all of the camping spots with utilities are taken, she said. There are primitive spaces still available, she said. Being in the Kansas City area, Hillsdale Lake gets the largest number of visitors of all lakes in Kansas. Hillsdale State Park gets 750,000 visitors a year. Among the events at the state park for the holiday weekend – The Prairie Wine band will perform Saturday evening beginning at 7:30 at Saddle Ridge Shelter and the Waters Edge Ministry will have a church service Sunday morning at 9:30 at Shelter 3.
