POMONA LAKE — More than 20,000 people are expected to visit the Pomona State Park at Pomona Lake this Memorial Day weekend. Besides Independence Day, Memorial Day is the biggest weekend at the lake, said park manager Casey Smith. He said there are plenty of camping spots still open – for now. Because of the economy, there haven’t been as many campers coming in early before the weekend, he said. But if the normal trend continues this year, the camping sites with utilities will be full by Friday but there should be plenty of sites for those campers who like to rough it for the weekend, he said. Most of the swimming beaches are closed because the Pomona Lake level is eight feet above normal, requiring boaters and visitors to be more careful, he said. For the holiday, Friends of the Pomona State Park will have the traditional biscuits and gravy breakfast Saturday morning. There is a motorcycle ride, ski show and a live band at the Lighthouse Bay Marina Sunday.
