GARNETT — The Kansas Corn Commission, based in Garnett, is back again this year to take part in the Corn Farmers Coalition. Kansas Corn Commission’s Sue sSchulte saidthe coalition works in Washington to talk to members of Congress and policy makers about corn. The group emphasizes that most corn farms are family-owned and -operated and that corn production is important for food and fiber, she said. Corn has been the target of several shots nationally, including the recently-released study that says the increase of the use of high-fructose corn syrup in prepared foods has contributed to American obesity. The coalition’s web site is www.cornfarmerscoalition.org.
